Cabergoline is a prescription medication used to treat various conditions associated with high levels of the hormone prolactin, also known as hyperprolactinemia. Prolactin is naturally produced by the pituitary gland and plays a role in lactation and breast tissue development. It works by mimicking dopamine in the brain, thereby stopping the brain from producing and releasing excess prolactin from the pituitary gland.
